Glass Screens and Green Tickets: Two Faces of Progress in the Events Industry
This week in the events industry brings a clash of two trends: technological ambition and growing climate responsibility. In Phoenix, a giant transparent LED screen has been installed that's changing the way we think about arena facades. Meanwhile, British ticketing platform Humanitix shows that sustainability can begin as early as the ticket purchase itself. Let's take a closer look at what happened.
01 · LED Screens
Phoenix Shows Just How Big an "Invisible" Screen Can Be
The facade of the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix has just been fitted with the largest exterior transparent LED display ever installed on an NBA or WNBA arena [1]. Built by Absen, the structure measures an impressive 69 by 12.5 meters, giving it a total display area of 860 square meters and more than 17 million pixels [1]. The screen runs at a 60-frames-per-second refresh rate, delivering the kind of image smoothness we've come to expect from sports and concert broadcasts [1].
What's most interesting, though, is how it was installed — the LED mesh sits behind the building's glass exterior, so the facade stays transparent during the day and transforms into a giant screen for broadcasting games, concerts, or special events after dark [1]. This is a solution that, until now, existed mostly as a concept render — and it has just become a real, large-scale installation. For the AV and event production industry, it's a sign that "invisible" screens integrated into architecture are no longer a novelty, but a genuine development path for large sports and entertainment venues.
02 · Sustainability
Humanitix Adds a Climate Fee to the Cart
A completely different, yet equally important, shift comes from ticketing platform Humanitix, which — in partnership with onboard:earth — has become the first ticketing agency in the UK to build a voluntary "climate fee" into its standard ticket purchase flow [2]. The fee is meant to offset the emissions from attendees traveling to events — a simple mechanism that ticket buyers can accept or decline right at checkout [2].
The solution was designed to avoid complicating life for organizers or buyers alike — it's a tool meant to enable real climate action without adding bureaucracy on the event's side [2]. This shows that sustainability in the events industry is no longer confined to technical production alone — staging, logistics, or equipment transport — but is also making its way into sales and the relationship with attendees. If the Humanitix model proves successful, similar options are likely to start appearing with other ticketing providers too.

What This Means for the Industry
Though these two stories touch on completely different areas — visual technology and ticketing — they share a common thread: the events industry is growing bolder about testing solutions that, until recently, seemed niche or too costly. Transparent LED screens integrated into building architecture, and emissions-offset mechanisms built directly into the ticket-buying process, are trends worth watching — and ones we're sure to hear more about.
